Giving back to our community

Giving back to our community

I have watched my dear friend, Ruth Campbell, Be a Mentor for several years and have always wanted to know more and to get involved.  Sadly, I let this or that keep me "too busy" to give of my time.  I am charitable financially, but have been bad about giving my time. Basically, I made excuses for myself.

When Covid hit and we were locked down at home left to teach our children, it hit me hard that there must be so many children who are less fortunate than my own.  I could imagine that these children did not have the luxury of parents with means and equipment to keep up with virtual school.  It was truly exhausting for everyone involved.*

As I thought about the kiddos who would be left behind due to their parents being unable to stop working to home school, it reminded me of my desire to give back to the community with my time as well as money.  I finally reached out to Be a Mentor, a local organization that empowers children by connecting them with a mentor who can guide them in their community with compassion and integrity.

I have completed my online training and am really looking forward to being paired with my mentee.  The program sounds incredible, and I am thankful to be taking this step.  It will be a bit different this year, and will be virtual for the safety of all involved, but I look forward to creating a relationship with my mentee.  If you are interested in being a mentor and helping "a child on the brink of success", there is no better time than now to take the leap.  We can all use some additional guidance during this chaotic and uncertain time.

xx Jane

*Note: In full disclosure, I totally pawned off the home schooling to our incredible sitter (who is married and quarantined with her husband only) while I worked.  Hats off to all teachers out there... and parents who had the patience and persistence for home schooling.

Spreading KINDESS

Spreading KINDESS

Spreading kindness has been the motto of our team for quite some time now, but has become ever more important in 2020.  We have noticed how our client's kind emails and messages make us feel.  This impact has inspired us to make a concerted effort to share those messages with our audience to spread the joy we feel when we receive kindness from you. This, in turn, has bred more kindness from you all.  Who doesn't want to help spread kindness??

We are so inspired that I wanted to offer one lucky person a treat for sharing a kind story about your JP purchase.  Please continue to share your stories on instagram or send us an email to info@janepopejewelry.com for a chance to win $250 Gift Card to Jane Pope Jewelry*.

More importantly, know that your kindness truly makes our day!

xx Jane

*This $250 gift card will be toward a purchase through our website only and cannot be applied to custom projects.

*Winner will be announced Thursday, September 17th.

* This gift card cannot be used during a promotion.

* We will be sharing your kindness to spread more.

BIG LOVE and Small Change

BIG LOVE and Small Change

I am so excited to finally put my thoughts into action with two exciting projects:  The BIG LOVE rings and my involvement in the Small Change Foundation.  BIG LOVE is something I say when I feel a sense of overwhelming love and gratitude for someone, when I know a friend is hurting or going through a difficult time, or just to let people know that I have big love for them.

This year has been particularly difficult for most.  For me, some parts have been incredibly beautiful and special - dinners with my little family on our porch every evening for months of the most beautiful weather; having my precious babies teach me how to skateboard at age 42 (still a lot of work to be done there); support by dear friends/family/community; and some clarity on what I want for my role in this world.

But, if I am being honest, I have had some lows too.  I think we all have.  In these lows, I have thought a lot about how being kind and loving people is so crucial in how we feel about ourselves.  When I am kind or gracious with others and show BIG LOVE, it can bring kindness and love out of someone who might not have otherwise been up for showing it.  I decided that I wanted to create a piece that would remind anyone wearing it that there is BIG LOVE in this world, even in the confusing times we are in right now.

I mentioned in a previous blog post that I was looking for a way to give back with greater impact, locally, nationally, and globally.  I am excited to announce that I have joined The SMALL CHANGE FOUNDATION as a trustee.  Jane Pope Jewelry plans to make a contribution of a portion of all JP sales to the foundation.    I will be also be selling the BIG LOVE ring and donating 20% of the profits on this piece to The Small Change Foundation.

Small Change, previously dedicated largely to education and the arts has now decided to expand its goal is to make quarterly donations to charities with a strong mission to help women and children locally, nationally, or globally.  If you have a charity you think might be a fit, please feel free to reach out at small.change.foundation.llc@gmail.com to submit your charity.

I am thrilled to embark on this journey and will keep you all posted on the charities as we select them.

Locals, we hear you.

Locals, we hear you.

We have been getting lots of requests from Charleston locals for a pick up option for their purchases.

Our building is still locked down and we are still taking extra precaution, by limiting appointments for the safety of our studio and staff.  That being said, we wanted to offer an option for people to pick up items, both locals and those visiting.

Starting July 20th we will allow pick ups on Mondays 2-2:30 pm and Wednesday 10:30-11 am.

Here's how it will work:

Please place your order through our website and pay for shipping.  On the off shot you don't make it by and we end up shipping it instead, this is a more simple way. You can let us know you would like to pick up in the notes section at checkout

When your order is ready, we will email to let you know.

We need a response from you by 12 pm on Monday or 8 am Wednesday letting us know you are picking up and what the make and color of your car is.

We will be out front of the Cigar Factory building to hand off your purchases with a mask on and ask that you wear one as well.

After pick up, we will process your shipping refund within 24 hours.

Hope this helps some and look forward to seeing you soon!

xx Jane

GRATEFUL

GRATEFUL

As the country and the world are starting to slowly, carefully open back up, we are increasingly grateful.  Grateful that we have not had to shut our doors or do layoffs.  Grateful that we have been able to get the supplies we need to keep working during the shutdowns.  Grateful that most of our suppliers are fighting diligently to get back to work safely are starting to open back up.  We work in a very family oriented industry, so I know that this time has been difficult for many.  Most importantly, we are GRATEFUL for your kindness as we work through this time of uncertainty. Thank you for all of your kind messages and emails during this time.  Thank you for your patience with us as we fill your orders. We appreciate your grace during this uncertain time more than you know.

Almost one year ago, I opened Conscious Casting to help solve some frustrations with my 10+ years in business, and now more than ever do I know that this was the best decision I could make with everything that has happened.  Were it not for doing this, we would not be able to fill your orders.  We have added a new employee,  Sarah, who will be handling all of the customer relations and orders at Conscious Casting.

THANK YOU ALL WHO HAVE SUPPORTED US WITH PATIENCE DURING THIS TIME.   Your kind words and notes and dm's mean more thank you will ever know.

We are eternally GRATEFUL.

Update on Studio Visits

Update on Studio Visits

We have gotten lots of requests about studio appointments.  While we are here working in the studio (safely 6+ feet apart), we are not open to studio visits at this point.  Our building is not open to the public.  We also have a shared studio.  For the health and safety of our incredible studio mates, clients and staff, we want to proceed cautiously with face to face appts.

While we are taking things day by day, we are hoping to open appointments up in June.  We will have to start slowly with fewer appointments and they will be spaced out.  We ask that if you want to check your ring size, you contact us for a ring sizer we can send to do at home.

We will keep appts to 30 min max.  Please be on time and wait outside until we come out to let you in.  We will require that you all wear a mask and wash your hands when you come inside to the studio.  We will sanitize between appts as well.

We miss seeing you all in person, being able to work with you on custom projects, show you the collection.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Getting your RING SIZE at home

Getting your RING SIZE at home

Hope you all are faring well and are healthy during these crazy times.  Many of you have been inquiring about measuring your ring size at home.  While we typically suggest that customer's stop by their local jewelry store to have it measured, that is not an option at this time. We have you covered.  We can mail you an at home tool to measure your finger.  To get the tool mailed to you, email us at info@janepopejewelry.com and we will send it out to you.

Simply put the end of the sizer in the slot and pull to fit around your finger.  A couple of notes about the process.  You want to be able to take off the measuring tool as you would a ring at the size that you settle on.  The ring sizer is wider than most of our bands.  wider rings feel more snug than thinner.  If you are looking at the cigar band, keep its width in mind when choosing your size.  Also keep in mind that hands fluctuate in size a bit.  If temps are warm, they are likely to be more swollen.  If you have been indulging like many during quarantine in salt or booze or sugar, your finger size might be a little swollen as well.  Just keep this in mind when you order your ring.

Things that are making me happy

Things that are making me happy

This is such a time of uncertainty, confusion, and most importantly OPPORTUNITY.  For those of us who are fortunate enough to be healthy, this is a time to find the beauty in the little things.  I have been taking note of things that are making me happy in an effort to focus on everything I have to be thankful for.  Kind emails from customers, skateboarding around the block with my kiddos, late night dance parties with our little family, al fresco dinners each night on our porch with our CSA veggies... the list goes on an on.  I encourage you to notice what is making you HAPPY.  Share this on instagram and tag us so we can spread the happy.

What can I do? What can WE do?

What can I do? What can WE do?

What an interesting space we are in right now.  With so much uncertainty swirling around, I feel oddly calm.  I am normally ridden with anxiety, so I am not sure why I do not have an unusual amount around this situation.  I am not sure if I am like a bird with my head in the sand, but I feel oddly positive about the future.  I feel a need to take a pause or slow down with what is going on.  Life and work have been so busy lately.  A little time to step back and refocus just might be the silver lining here?

When I was in the hospital 7 years ago, it was insane to me the medical bills that we accrued.  While I was not 100% with-it and my husband dealt with them all, it blew my mind the little tidbits and numbers that he shared with me.  Thankfully, we had insurance and an insanely powerful support system.  I believe that I wouldn't have gotten through that time in my life without the help of every single meal delivered, babysitting; without the unwavering support of my mom who moved to our town for a month, and when I still needed help came to drive the kiddos and me home every day and stayed with us when my husband was traveling for work overnight; my dad driving me to Duke multiple times that year to have my eye sight repaired with two surgeries and follow up appointments; and most importantly the support of my husband who carpooled the kiddos to two schools and me to my office and then worked all hours and fought with the insurance company over every bill and dealt with my memory lapse and grumpy attitude that I only let him see.  You are a saint, Tyler Cooper.

What do people do who do not have a support system?  Parents who can't drop everything and come running to help you raise your own babies?  Or the means or know how to dispute the insurance company over the bills?   I have thought about those people a lot over the past year, and how I want to do more to uplift women and children in need.  I keep thinking how can I help? How can WE help?

Everything I keep seeing is that there are children who get two meals a day at school.  With schools being closed, how will these children get meals?  I want to help. I hate to think of a child not getting the basics they need.  I have decided to donate a portion of sales while schools are shut down over the upcoming weeks to help feed children who are not getting meals because they are not attending school.  I will make a weekly donation to a food bank that provides food for children and mothers in need.

I have been talking about starting a foundation for the past year.  I get asked to donate items to many events throughout the year. I love to donate, but have felt over the past couple of years that I want to attempt concentrated efforts to increase my impact.  This only fuels my desire to start my foundation... for situations just like this where mother's and children need a leg up during difficult times.  My goal is to periodically make donations to charities with a strong mission to help women and children locally, nationally, or globally.  For now I will be making donations weekly to help feed children affected by school closings due to the coronavirus.

Stay well and positive about how we can have an impact on those less fortunate during this un-chartered territory.

BIG LOVE, Jane

Studio Update

Studio Update

We are excited to announce something new and cool that will undoubtedly streamline and simplify things.  We have revised our studio appointment policy to better serve our clients and to help better manage time on our end.

Because our studio is a working studio, most hours of the day, you will find the studio in a bit of a whirlwind processing orders, product development, photography, organization etc.  We like to be prepared for visits and able to focus on clients who have appointments, without being distracted with other tasks at hand.  Therefore, we are now accepting appointments during  select times via SQUARE in hopes that this allow for more structure in our appointment schedule.

Each appt is 15-30 minutes long and you will receive both email and text updates to remind you of your time. You are welcome to cancel you appointment via the app, but we ask that you do so 24 hours in advance so that someone else may pick up your appointment time.

We are a small team and believe that making these much needed adjustments will better serve our wonderful clients.

We will also be periodically hosting open studio hours and events where we will welcome drop ins to view the full collection, as well, so be sure you are signed up for our email list!

xx Jane
