Generations of JP Q&A- Carter

Carter and I have been besties since we were 14 and 15 years old. We met at boarding school and became fast friends, and both later ended up at UNC for college. Over the years, we’ve lived in New York and LA at the same time, stood beside each other as maids/matrons of honor in our weddings, and now our daughters are each other’s godchildren.

Carter is a dear friend and a true beauty, inside and out. She and her gorgeous mom, Janie, along with her sisters, Alston and Olivia, have supported JP since day one. Seeing the many generations of these women wearing JP means so much to me. It reflects the layers of JP itself. I’ve created many custom pieces for them to mark different stages of their lives, and it makes me so happy to see those layers come to life.

I brought in Carter’s friend and talented Richmond-based photographer Brittany Daniel to capture these women as both their friend and supporter. It was a beautiful day with truly beautiful people.

xx Jane

How does it feel when you put on your favorite JP piece?
I love that my JP pieces tell a story. If I'm wearing a classic button down shirt and traditional gold studs, it's a completely different look than if I'm wearing a classic button down shirt and JP Knife Edge Studs. It's because they are completely unique in their unexpected shape and texture. They say 'I'm classic but with an edge'. It's assertive but understated. They say, 'I'm one of a kind'. Expect the unexpected.

Are there particular moments or memories that JP brings to mind?
I've been wearing JP pieces since Jane launched in the early 2000s. They speak to so many chapters of my life. I have my bold, large stone pieces, I have one of a kind studs that I can stack up my ears, I have bangles with my children's names engraved on them. They all represent different phases of my life, but they all layer together and still feel right 20 years later.

How would you describe jewelry that truly feels like you?
I've always been drawn to statement pieces. I like my jewelry to reflect how I feel... unique and strong. Imperfect and always evolving.

Is there a piece of jewelry you hope to pass down - or receive - one day?
I think about this a lot because I have two daughters. I love to think about them wearing all of my fun jewels one day. For anything they are fighting over, I guess I will have to rework to make two!

In one word, how would you describe the relationship between these generations of women?
FUN. We have so much fun.

What story does your JP jewelry tell?
I touched on this above, but my JP pieces say that I'm bold, unique, and imperfect. And always evolving.
