Preserving a Dying Art: The Legacy of Hand Engraving

I am often asked if the hand engraved pieces in the collection are ever included in the JP ANNUAL SALE. The answer is simple, but the full story is far richer—and far more meaningful. Hand engraving is a true labor of love performed by the skilled jewelers on our team. I have invested in equipment and intensive training for our jewelers to help support them in this dying art. In today’s world, many opt for computer programs, laser machines, and other shortcuts that allow them to mass-produce engravings quickly and cheaply. Hand engraving takes time and love and each is truly a unique work of art.
Each hand-engraved piece is completely unique, marked by the subtle imperfections and personal touch of the artist’s hand. Though rare, hand engraving remains highly valued for its unique, personal, and artistic touch.
So, the bottom line is: Hand-engraved pieces are never on sale because they require exceptional time, skill, and craftsmanship honed through years of training. Unlike mass-produced or machine-engraved items, each hand-engraved piece is unique, reflecting the artist’s personal touch and subtle imperfections that give it character. These pieces are rare, deeply personal, and lovingly made—an embodiment of artistry in its purest form.
I’m incredibly proud to offer this art form to the JP community. Our jewelers have recreated handwriting from cherished notes left by loved ones, drawn intricate botanical designs on signet rings, engraved names in every font imaginable, and created countless custom pieces that serve as lasting symbols of love and memory. Every single one tells a story—and every single one is unlike any other.
