JP Women Who Inspire: Kate Nevin

Kate is nothing short of a powerhouse. With over 20 years of investment expertise, she brings a level of acumen that commands respect—yet she remains remarkably approachable. Kate is passionate about making finance accessible and guiding those of us who are less savvy through the world of investing. I have known Kate for more than two decades and her beauty, brains, and confidence have always inspired me. More recently, I’ve been moved by her commitment to supporting women-led hedge funds, venture capital, and private equity, and I’ve had the pleasure of hearing her speak on the value of these investments. Beyond her impressive professional accomplishments, Kate is an amazing mother, a loving wife and a beautiful human inside and out. She’s one heck of a teacher, and I’m endlessly inspired to keep learning from her.
xx Jane
We asked Kate a few questions so that you can get to know her, and we are so excited to share a little bit about a woman who inspires us:
Tell me a little about what you do? I am a portfolio manager with a passion for scaling access and money with talented female fund managers. My mission to get more women to invest more money in more women (and repeat until we fix capitalism!). We can create impact at scale with advocacy, philanthropy and investing. Investing being the most important lever for change that we have, and unfortunately that lever that doesn’t get utilized enough by women. I want more women to feel agency to drive change with their money and their investments. Not only do we need women at the table, we need them making the decisions on where capital flows.
What inspires you? Kindness, a good book, smart women, nature, live music, beautiful design…it’s a long list and I try to be find
inspiration multiple times a day.Who are your greatest influences? Just one. My intuition – when I listen to it.
What is the best advice you've ever received? “Show up. Deliver. Move on.” Steve Montoya, a Divine Master Healer, shared this beautifully simple advice with me. Women – speaking for myself here! – tend to overthink before a task and then ruminate after. What a waste of brain space! I love this encouragement to just be prepared, do the work, and then keep going.
What accomplishment are you most proud of? I am proud of the family dynamic my husband and I have created together. First, he’s truly a soulmate and my biggest cheerleader, but he’s also an incredible partner in this grand adventure of raising kids and building a life! My kids are amazing humans, all so different – all interdependent and independent. Our home is very much a sacred space – a place to be all the things you need to be. With my crazy travel schedule, it is nice to
come home to a house that is full of love above all else. Not to say I don’t drop a dozen balls a week, but my family gives me grace and luckily – most of the balls bounce instead of break! What is one challenge you've experienced that has led to growth? The financial industry is quite biased against women. We all have our own biases, of course. But daily I see how much harder women have to work in this sector. We need to be 10x better to receive a fraction of the
funding. Though research shows again and again that women tend to outperform, this still feels like a “bro” industry most days. That is frustrating, but of course – that is also where the opportunity lives. I lead with data on why women are a great investment. With the great wealth transfer taking place and most of this money headed into the hands of women- we are really at an inflection point for changing the face and the
impact of the financial markets. We need women to get engaged with their wealth and where it is invested. Is there anything you'd like to share about your journey to where you are now? It wasn’t a straight line and I’ve tried to have as much fun as possible along the way. I love this quote by Yoko Ono, “You can be wild and still be very wise.”
How do you make time to recharge? I have a (mostly) consistent morning meditation practice. 30 minutes works wonders on shifting the trajectory of my day. It’s a reset, a recharge, and a way to ease into what is typically a non-stop workday. It’s amazing how much better my days flow and how much more connected I am to those around me when I’ve taken the time in the morning to be still.
How do you hope to inspire and uplift others? This world really tries to contort you into a status quo type of existence, so I guess the best way to inspire is to just live your life. Everyone’s happiness might look different. Supporting others in whatever their version of happiness is feels very inspirational to me. We need more happy people in the world.
Where is your happy place? Two places. My back porch on Johns Island overlooking the Bohicket Creek and a small cabin on Vancouver Island looking out to the Clayoquot sound; proximity to nature and the people I love.

Do you have anything fun on the horizon? Lots of interesting work travel for the next few weeks before more relaxing summer travel begins. A pilgrimage to Iona, meeting my daughter in Amsterdam and then my favorite summer spot in Canada. I prioritize rest and digging into strategic work projects over the summer because the rest of the year is just non-stop!
